Homemade custard

A very tasty homemade custard, which is perfect for fresh fruit pies, pastries and much more!  Once you have tried to make your own custard, you will never go back to tinned!

200ml milk
50g sugar
1 tablespoon of cornstarch
1 packet of vanilla sugar
some orange and lemon zest 
1 yolk

Preparation time:

Prep: 10 min 


Put the milk with a packet of vanilla sugar and the zests into a pan and bring it gently just below boiling point.

Meanwhile whisk the yolk with the sugar until creamy and add a tablespoon of cornstarch.
Pour a ladle of hot milk into the sugar mixture, whisking constantly.
Bring the mixture back into the pan and heat gently, stirring with a wooden spoon, until the custard is thickened.
